I think I finally got this sound right, thanks to Chris, but to make sure that I'm really saying it right, let me ask you:
Would you say that in these two words "cut" and "cup" the U sound is the same as in "Kurt" "Burger" "Turn"?

Yo diría que no. Yo encuentro el sonido de 'cup' más parecido a 'cart' que 'Kurt', y a 'barge' que 'burger'.

Todo lo que te digo es relativo a mi acento:
cap/cat perfect
cop/cot sounds halfway between cop/cot and cup/cut
cup/cut a perfectly pronounced vowel, but one that doesn't exist in my English
Your cup/cut sounds like it's being pronounced in the front of the mouth. I pronounce that sound in farther back, almost in the throat.
