Karma is a new feature added to Proboards... we'll test it out and see if it works well here - PM me if you have any probs or reply to this thread. And remember, you can only use it once every hour kar·ma (kär'mə) n. 1. Hinduism & Buddhism. The total effect of a person's actions and conduct during the successive phases of the person's existence, regarded as determining the person's destiny. 2. Fate; destiny. 3. Informal. A distinctive aura, atmosphere, or feeling: There's bad karma around the house today. Karma on ProBoards is used basically as an approval rating. Members are able to smite and exalt their fellow members once an hour based on whether they like or dislike the member. All members will start with a karma of 0. What does exalt do? ex·alt (ĭg-zôlt') tr.v., -alt·ed, -alt·ing, -alts. 1. To raise in rank, character, or status; elevate: exalted the shepherd to the rank of grand vizier If you like a member, exalt them. By exalting them, you will increase their karma by one point. For example, if the user has a karma of 0, he will now have a karma of 1. What does smite do? smite (smīt) v., smote (smōt), smit·ten (smĭt'n) or smote, smit·ing, smites. v.tr. 1. a. To inflict a heavy blow on, with or as if with the hand, a tool, or a weapon. DON'T WORRY! Its not as bad as it sounds! If you don't like a member click the smite link (please don't go to their house and "inflict a heavy blow.") If the user has a karma of 0, and you smite the user, he will have a karma of -1.

hay más .........
If someone gives a particularly useful, helpful, or insightful post, then you can push the "exalt" button. That gives them a karma point. If they are acting like a big stupid jerk, you can push the smite button, and that takes away a karma point. I'd like to state though, that thus far, no one has acted like a big stupid jerk. Wink
The point of the points, so to speak, is nothing more than allowing new people to see which members are particularly active and helpful. To tell you the truth, I forget about these buttons more often than not. That's mostly because I think everyone offers something helpful, even if it doesn't necessarily apply to me or my situation.
