I think that sometimes it's easier to remember a word and/or a group of words if we know where they come from. So I added this sub-board for etymology of the words and here's my first post:
Did you know?
Agarrar (to grab) comes from the word garra (claw)
In other Spanish-speaking countries (Spain for sure, Mexico I don't know) they refuse to use this word, claiming that human beings don't have claws. So they prefer to use "tomar" instead.
On the other hand, here in Argentina, we do have claws and we use that verb for informal conversation, and leave "tomar" for formal writing.
